VI Congresso Nazionale La Rete delle Neurocardiologie is organized by AIM Group International - Rome Office and will be held from Jan 31 - Feb 01, 2019 at House of the Aviator, Roma, Lazio, Italy. Course Description: The National Congress of the Network of Neurocardiologies, now in its sixth edition, is the annual appointment with cardiologists and neurologists who carry out their activities in the various Italian centers. This year will be even more evident to the Network Centers that will take care of the organization and conduct of the parallel "UPDATES WORKSHOP" sessions for the production ofpractical paths that will be the expression of participants' consent on patient management in different clinical scenarios. The practical paths will be organized as group work in order to produce "Decision Making" flowcharts on the general issues addressed by the proposed clinical cases. Plenary sessions, in addition to representing the space for sharing workgroups, will propose "Focus" on the most controversial topics of scientific literature in the neuroradiological field. The novelty of this year, given the great interest in the topics of differential diagnostics in the clinical conditions involving the mechanisms of Heart-brain interaction, will be represented by the introduction of practical sessions where only neuroimaging and cardio-images will challenge the interpretative and clinical capacity of participating cardiologists and neurologists. It will be an innovative way to face the pivotal points of complex patient management in a multidisciplinary way, in all those conditions where the clinical outcome is strictly dependent on the diagnostic and decision-making speed of the doctor. Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
Quantitative Genetics and Genomics Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) is organized by Gordon Research Conferences (GRC) and will be held from Feb 09 - 10, 2019 at Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco Resort & Spa, Lucca, Tuscany, Italy. Conference Description: In the fast-moving field of quantitative genetics, some of the most exciting and cutting-edge work and ideas come from graduate students and post-doctoral researchers. The Gordon Research Seminar on Quantitative Genetics and Genomics is a unique forum for graduate students and post-docs from human, and plant genetics to present their current work, exchange ideas, share insights, and establish new collaborations. There will be opportunities to meet and interact with senior scientists during the seminar. A mentoring session will be organized on the second day, where small groups composed of attendees and mentors will discuss topics related to careers in quantitative genetics. The focus of this year’s meeting is the opportunities and challenges of working with big data. Big data encompasses and is not limited to: large sample sizes; multiple phenotypes, tissue types or molecular layers; diverse genetic backgrounds; rich environmental or context information; novel data-types generated through both high throughput and targeted experiments. We will discuss the insights we gain into the genetics of complex traits using diverse datasets, the challenges we need to overcome, and the opportunities for future research. Statistical, computational, and experimental methods will be presented. Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
Quantitative Genetics and Genomics Gordon Research Conference (GRC) is organized by Gordon Research Conferences (GRC) and will be held from Feb 10 - 15, 2019 at Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco Resort & Spa, Lucca, Tuscany, Italy. Conference Description: Quantitative or complex traits are of great importance in evolution (e.g. clutch size in birds), medicine (e.g. most psychiatric diseases) and agriculture (e.g. yields of crops and livestock). Study of the genetics of complex traits has a long history but the field has been revolutionized in the last decade by the availability of SNP genotype and genome sequence data on individuals. These large datasets are becoming even larger as mega-projects such as UK Biobank collect genomic and phenotypic data on 500,000 people and as commercial genotyping of cattle and poultry reaches 1,000,000s of animals. In addition, “phenomics” or the automated recording of high dimensional phenotypes is adding another dimension to the scale of datasets available to scientists. This explosion of data is potentially increasing greatly the power to make discoveries but there are many challenges to be solved if this potential is to be realized. This conference will cover the basic understanding of the genetics of complex traits, how they evolve, how the path from genome to the phenotype can be traced using functional annotation and gene editing and how this knowledge is applied in medicine and agriculture. For instance, understanding the genetics of complex traits is fundamental to hopes for personalized medicine. The conference is unusual in that it brings together scientists working on humans, crops, livestock and other species. In recent years cross-fertilization between these groups has been beneficial to all. For instance, the mixed statistical models developed in livestock genetics have been adopted by geneticists working in human genetics, crops and other species. This conference with ample time for discussion aims to stimulate further cross-fertilization and lead to new collaborations. Conference Sessions: • Genetic Architecture of Complex Traits • Genotype by Environment Interactions • Selection and Evolution of Quantitative Traits • Statistical Methods • Big Data and Machine Learning • Use of Functional Annotation • Gene Expression and Phenomics • Identifying Causal Variants and Gene Editing • Application to Medicine and Agriculture Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.

Antimicrobial Peptides Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) is organized by Gordon Research Conference (GRC) and will be held from Feb 23 - 24, 2019 at Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco Resort & Spa, Lucca, Tuscany, Italy. Conference Description: Antimicrobial (host defense) peptides have been implicated to play an important role in many different biological settings, including infection, inflammation, cancer and autoimmunity. These short peptides can exert a multitude of functions and simple biochemical modifications can be used to steer their functionality to either improve or dampen desired or unwanted effects. This multifunctionality and biochemical flexibility has opened up a wide field of potential applications for synthetic antimicrobial peptides, which are being developed at a rapid pace. Therefore, the 2019 Gordon Research Seminar on Antimicrobial Peptides will focus on topics ranging from the discovery of novel functions and mechanisms of action of natural antimicrobial peptides in health and disease to their innovative research on therapeutic applications. The Gordon Research Seminar on Antimicrobial Peptides provides a unique forum for young scientists (e.g. graduate students, post-doctoral researchers) to not only present and discuss their unpublished cutting edge research but also aims to foster networking and build collaborations with colleagues with a shared interest in antimicrobial peptides. This year's meeting will consist of a presentation by a distinguished scientist followed by trainee presentations and discussions on cutting edge research in the field of antimicrobial peptides. The GRS also hosts informal poster sessions that facilitates stimulating discussions and exchange of ideas between trainees. Finally, a mentorship component will be held to give participants more insight into the potential career opportunities within this field of science. Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
